4 Tips to Help You Decide if Plastic Surgery is for You

plastic surgery

By Casey Haslem

Plastic surgery can help an individual attain greater satisfaction with their appearance. However, before undergoing any type of procedure, you need to take several factors into consideration, so you can achieve the best results.

Discuss Your Options

Before you decide on a particular procedure you need to do some research first. Surgical facilities such as San Diego plastic surgery experts have the knowledge and expertise to be able to give you advice and recommendations based on your particular needs. Finding someone who you can trust and work with is imperative to a successful surgery, so you need to choose them wisely. They will also be able to go over the recovery process and things that you may encounter along the way.

You may have enough money put aside for the actual surgery, but you need to put some additional funds away in reserve. The extra money will be a financial cushion in case unexpected things should arise. This could include a procedure taking longer than expected or if you need other necessary work to support the original surgery. Many offices offer financing and payment plans, so you don’t have to pay for your treatment all at once.

Good Health

A plastic surgeon will be able to assess your health and do a series of tests to ensure you are in good physical health. Being in relatively good health can speed up the recovery process, especially if you don’t smoke or drink. Mental preparedness is another tip for determining whether plastic surgery is right for you. Your expectations should be realistic, and you should know that although your appearance will change, your attitude and positivity won’t change unless you do something about it. Plastic surgery can have a positive influence over your mental outlook and how you perceive yourself. If you’ve always been uncomfortable with the bump on your nose, plastic surgery can alleviate your insecurities.

Side Effects and Risks

With any surgery comes a variety of risks and side effects. In addition to asking the surgeon about the risks or complications, you need to do your own research. If there are things you need to do ahead of time to ensure a successful outcome such as quit smoking, lose a bit of weight or eat a healthy diet, you can implement a plan to get it done beforehand. Knowledge is power, and you will feel more confident with the surgeon and procedure if you know everything ahead of time.

Make Your Own Spa-Quality Skincare Products

A day at the spa is a nice treat, but it’s also an expensive one. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of homemade skincare recipes to help you stay pampered – without having to take out a second mortgage.

Cleansing facial mask

  • 1/4 cup raw, organic honey
  • 1 raw egg, beaten
  • 1/8 tsp apple cider vinegar

Honey is well-known for its anti-bacterial properties, while apple cider vinegar can function as a toner to help tame oily skin. To make this simple mask, mix together ingredients in a small bowl – you may need to melt your honey in the microwave first to achieve a liquid consistency. Apply mixture to face and neck. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

Coconut cuticle cream

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2-3 drops essential oil of your choice

Are dry, ragged cuticles driving you mad? Whip up this super-easy concoction to soften ‘em up. Simply mix coconut oil and olive oil in a small, microwave-safe bowl. Heat for a few seconds, then add 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil. Soak hands in warm water for few minutes before massaging the mixture into your cuticles.

Refreshing foot soak

  • 1 gallon water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salt
  • 15 drops essential oil of your choice

After a long day, treat your feet to this relaxing foot soak. Boil the water, then add it to a basin (one you can comfortably rest your tootsies in) and let it cool a bit. Toss in the baking soda and epsom salt, let dissolve. Finally, add your favorite essential oil for a soothing scent. Next, add the final ingredient: your feet!

Satisfying body scrub

  • 1/2 cup sweet almond oil
  • 1 cup finely ground sea salt
  • 10 drops essential oil of your choice

In a small bowl, mix together the oil and salt to form a creamy paste – if it’s too scratchy, add more oil. Apply all over and gently scrub in a circular motion to slough away dirt, oil and dead skin cells.  Rinse to reveal softer, more refreshed skin!

How to Stay Young – Anti-Aging Tips

By Kodjo

Imagine if the fountain of youth existed.  How wonderful would that be?  Looking old would be a thing of the past.  Reality Check! The fountain of youth continues to remains elusive.  Fortunately, there are things you can do that can help you maintain a youthful appearance without surgery.

Eat the Years Away

The aging process is stimulated by foods that promote inflammation and free radical production. Fortunately, the inverse is also true. Eating foods that reduce inflammation can promote cell integrity. Systematically avoid foods packed with simple carbohydrates or fat. They are full of empty calories and have very little nutritional value.

Stay away from foods made from white flour and sugar. Simple carbohydrates such as these, can make you retain water and cause you to have a bloated appearance. Instead, eat whole grains. Whole grains are more nutritious than white flour, which is stripped of its vitamin and fiber rich out later. In addition, load up on leafy greens and non-starchy vegetables.

A New Do

Getting a new hair style or cut is an inexpensive way to take years off your appearance. Our face is our calling card to the world. Hair is a big part of a person’s appearance. Healthy looking strands, void of excessive split ends, represent a symbol of vitality. Choose a hair cut that plays up your best futures. It could be your eyes, lips, or neck. As the old saying goes: “if you got it, flaunt it.”

Choose a hair style you can maintain, but that also fits your life style. What’s the point looking fabulous when you leave the salon, but unable to replicate the same look the next day?

Always Smile

A smile can instantly change your mood. We smile when we are happy. It puts others at ease and makes a person appear less intimidating. Whitening your teeth is another inexpensive way to brighten your whole appearance, not just your smile. White teeth are symbol of youth and health.

Invest in your smile. It’s may seem easy to skip the dental visits, especially in this economy. But you should remember that a healthy mouth is a sign of good health. With all the advances in the dental field available today, there are many options to transform your smile. Dental implants look and act like your real teeth, so evaluate whether you need them. Unlike regular dentures, dental implants stay solidly in place, and allow you to perform all chewing activities without running the risk of them sliding.

Also, go to the dentist for regular cleaning, especially when you are more prone than others to have plaques. If left untreated, plaques can cause significant health hazards. For example, they are some of the leading sources of artery clogs. Therefore, investing in your oral health is more than just for a nice smile; it is a down payment on your future health.

Get a Massage and a Facial

Massages and facials are important anti-aging tools. Not only are they great for stress relief, they can help keep you looking young by maintaining your skin firm. Massaging muscle tissue increases blood circulation, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the massaged areas. Therefore, collagen fibers inlayed in the skin are more likely to retain their elasticity.

Regular massages can make your entire thigh and butt areas look smoother. Simply put, they are the best way to prevent and minimize the appearance of cellulite.

Exercising may not be your forte but you will be surprised how beneficial a few days of exercising per week can be for your body, mind and soul. If you are the kind that has a hard time finding the motivation to exercise, find yourself a workout partner. Working out with a partner not only will boost your motivation and excitement level, it also makes time pass much faster. Below is a great partner pushup routine you can try with a friend

Exfoliate Your Way to Smooth, Sexy, Unbelievable Skin!

So have you ever looked in the mirror and really (no really…?) liked what you saw looking back?  Wish you had celebrity skin?  Who doesn’t!  As women, when our skin is rockin’, we feel unstoppable.  And almost nothing gives us more confidence than great looking skin…well, maybe other than a new hand bag.

But you CAN have rockin’ skin and you can achieve it by using a skincare treatment that EVERYONE is talking about.  And that my friend is…Exfoliation.

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead cells from your top layer of skin.  But did you know that there are two ways to exfoliate?  Yup!  Chemical exfoliation and manual exfoliation.  So get ready for your Exfoliating 411.  Chemical exfoliation uses acids such as BHA (Salicylic Acid), AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or benzoyl peroxide that eat away the dry skin.  Manual exfoliation uses small granules or abrasive particles, usually suspended in a soothing cream, which scrubs off the dead skin.  Easy peasy!

Now for the hard part…which do you use?  It’s up to you!  I prefer a more natural approach, so I always recommend manual exfoliation.  Exfoliating benefits most skin types; however those with rosasea or very sensitive skin should go easy.  No worries though, most skin types can tolerate some form of mild scrubbing.

Exfoliating the skin on a regular basis (twice a week), can help improve many skin issues such as clogged pores, black head, white heads, hyper pigmentation and dry, dull skin.  And it’s not just for your face!  Scrubbing the skin on your bod will help with clogged pores or rough skin there as well.

Check out Sensaria’s Microdermabrasion Crème with volcanic pumice that’s suspended in a soothing cream with azulene from the chamomile plant for the face, and for the body, go for the Rejuvenating Salt Mud, which detoxifies the skin, as well as exfoliates it, using volcanic silt, a blend of Japanese mushrooms and wasabi.

Use both twice a week and you’re almost guaranteed to barely recognize the woman with gorgeous skin looking back at you!
