Southeast USA FunderLocal charities throughout the Southeast will benefit from funds raised during this year's BI-LO Charity Classic, as BI-LO begins its 10 Days of Giving campaign. On November 7 the BI- LO Charity Classic will begin dispersing some $4.5 million raised from this year's annual golf tournament, which has raised more than $28 million in its 22-year history. The organizations receiving funds focus on hunger relief programs, children's charities and education. The BI-LO Charity Classic has become the country's largest one-day charity golf tournament, and continues to grow each year. The event has helped more than 400 organizations throughout the Southeast, including, the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army and the Urban League. "The BI-LO Charity Classic has been able to accomplish great things for charitable organizations throughout our market area," said Dean Cohagan, BI- LO's president and CEO. "We set a lofty goal for ourselves this year, and we exceeded that. And what we are seeing in the next 10 days is the result of a great deal of generosity from our loyal customers and dedicated vendor partners involved in this tournament." The 2005 BI-LO Charity Classic Golf Tournament raised approximately $4.5 million on Monday, June 13, despite inclement weather, benefiting charities throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. The event took place on eleven Upstate South Carolina golf courses, as this year's tournament topped the $3.7 million raised in last year's tournament.
